Sportmattic Gearbox problem!! Please Help!!

Submitted by paolo on Mon, 06/01/2009 - 22:39

Hi all you Sportmattic people can you please help me? I have just become a proud member of the sportmattic.org website but also the proud owner of a 1979 911sc Targa Sportmattic! But I have a fault with the car. My gearbox has the following gears I think (I am new to this!) P (park) R (reverse) L (low gear for hill starts and snow I believe?) then D (drive) and last D2. The problem is in D and D2 I think the clutch disengages very often and the revs shoot up and the clutch disengages I then need to put the car in neutral and try D or D2 again. Its does this more frequently in D than D2. Can someone please give me some advise on this problem?

Many Thanks Paolo!!

Check list

Submitted by Morten on Tue, 06/02/2009 - 22:21.

Hello Paolo.... I had simular problems two years ago with my car. I do not know if you have got it sorted out yet, but here is a check list of things to do:
- Check the microswitch on the gear lever. It must be level, and perfectly clean. Do not bend the metal to get it to fit!!!
- Adjust the gear lever with losening the gear linkage beneath the cover behind the frond seats.
- Replace all bearings and gaskets along the rod from the gear lever to gear linkage, yes, the ball cup and everything
- Check the vacum hoses
- Check the oil level on the gearbox
- Jack the car on a lift, and check if you have a visible leak and if there is oil in your gearbox
- Check the electrical wires that are connected to the gearbox

It sounds to me that you have an oil leak that is spraying oil onto the cluch, and therefore the clutch is slipping and the engine revs up..
I had the same problem, the solution was to pull the engine and gearbox out, replace the cluch, bearings, gaskets and so on.. No problems now..

Good luck..

Best regards.
Morten

Microswitch on the gear lever

Submitted by paolo on Thu, 06/04/2009 - 08:31.

Hi Morton,

Many thank for your reply and advice. I had a look at the micro switches and in neutral the gap between the contacts were very close.
So I adjusted the gap to 0.40 as stated in the set-up manual in neutral. Once I sent this I also made sure that the contacts closed when
Selecting a gear. I took it for a test drive last night and it seems to be all working very well!!!

Thanks for your help! Best regards Paolo

Thanks. I don’t have any photos at the moment but I spent all last weekend cleaning my 911 so it would be a good time to post some pics. I will do this soon! What model do you have?

I am looking for the site about the 1z0-043 exam and as well as the 70-443 exam
but this site is fabulous and informative. I hope you will add here information regarding 70-237 exam and about the other exams for the convenience of the students.
