1974 SPORTOMATIC V.W. .CAMPERVAN [WESTY ] 2.7S K-JET

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY HI TO EVERYONE AND WISH THE NEW SITE GOOD LUCK.I USED TO VISIT THE OLD SITE [WHEELERFOLK] TO TRY AND GLEAN ANY INFO ON THE SPORTOMATIC,AND WITH THE HELP OF THEM AND THE LIKES OF FISHCOP[PELICAN PARTS] AND ROLAND,I LEARNT LOADS OF REALLY USEFUL INFORMATION.
I KNOW IT'S NOT A PORSCHE IN THE TRUE SENSE BUT IT'S STILL GOT IT'S HEART.
MY WIFE[DISABLED] AND I BOUGHT THIS AUTOMATIC CAMPER ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND HAD SOME GREAT FUN WITH THE KIDS. AFTER HAVING THE GEARBOX OUT A COUPLE OF TIMES[BROKEN BANDS] AND IT WAS GETTING VERY SLUGGISH [ I KNOW - IT,S A CAMPER!],I TOYED WITH THE IDEA OF PUTTING IN A PORSCHE ENGINE WITH AN AUTO.BOX TO GIVE IT A LITTLE SPICE. I WAS LOOKING AT THE AUTO OPTIONS WHEN I CAME ACROSS THE "SPORTOMATIC",A DECISION THAT HAS COST ME PLENTY.........IN TIME AND MONEY!
GOT HER UP AND RUNNING THE OTHER YEAR AND MANAGED ABOUT A THOUSAND MILES BEFORE THE ENGINE BLEW [RE RINGED ALUSILS?-PELICAN PARTS BBS],AND HAS BEEN PUT ON THE BACK BURNER-HOPE TO GET IT RUNNING THIS YEAR[LINE BORE,CASESAVERS ETC.].
SHE DROVE QUITE WELL AND EVEN WITH THE SMALL CLUTCH PLATE[I WAS ALWAYS A LITTLE WORRIED] PULLED AWAY NICELY. IT STARTED SLIPPING WHEN ONE OF THE OIL SEALS STARTED LETTING BY AND CONTAMINATING THE CLUTCHPLATE.THIS IS ANOTHER REASON WHY THE GEARSHIFT GETS STUCK IN GEAR-A GOOD YANK USUALLY DOES THE TRICK!
